I put a bookmark into a subdirectory of a bookmark directory. Then I put the same bookmark into a different subdirectory of the same directory; Firefox deletes the first bookmark. If I then try to add the bookmark to the first subdirectory from the Show All Bookmarks window, the same thing happens. Only by playing with the document name can I have the same bookmark in two different subdirectories.

Firefox only allows one copy of a bookmark and replaces a bookmark with an existing URL.

You can do a Copy & Paste in the Bookmarks Manager (Shift+Ctrl+B) to create a copy of a bookmark.
You can also drag the website's favicon on the left end of the location bar to a folder into the Bookmarks menu drop down list or to a folder in the Bookmarks side bar (Ctrl+B) or onto the Bookmarks Toolbar.
In the side bar you need to click to the left of the icon to prevent Firefox from opening the bookmark.
