How do I use 'print screen' or 'screen shot'?

When I press 'prt sc' ( I assume that this is 'print screen') nothing happens that I am aware of. Running Windows Vista on HP Pavilion dv5 64-bit and FireFox 4.0.1. Would like to print or capture a screen from the web on occasion.
