Firefox 4.0 cannot work with e.dentifier2 from ABNAMRO bank

Firefox 4.0 cannot work with the e.dentifier2 of the ABNAMRO bank via USB anymore. The bank says that my browser is missing the necessary functionality. I had no problems with Firefox 3.6..... So what happened?

The bank webpage specifies that the e.dentifier software only works with Firefox 4 in 32-bit mode. So for now the solution is to use another browser, or to start FF4 in 32-bit mode. To do that:

Go to your Applications folder and select Firefox. Select File->Get info. Check the box 'Open in 32-bit mode'.

ABN AMRO has released new software (version 2.0) for the e.dentifier2. This release works correctly with Firefox 10, no more asking for 32-bit mode.
