How can I open firefox 3.6

I run Mac OS X 10.6.5 Yesterday I tried to open it & I couldn't. I finally downloaded another application ( 3.6) and tried to install it, but couldn't due to a copy being open. I cleared my hard drive as best I could and each time I tried to install a new version, the message said there was already a version open and I've been unable to open firefox. What would you suggest?

Delete the file profiles.ini See:

If that doesn't work then delete the "/Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Firefox" folder
