When I'm browsing, I get redirected to:

It tells me to install an update but I think it is spyware/virus. Is this a valid update site? How do I prevent it?

No, it is not a valid Mozilla website. When you come across a fake website like that, use Help > Report Web Forgery... so it can be to the anti-phishing database.
