I noticed that a little yellow square pops up under my cursor (2x2mm) after about 2 seconds. I was wondering what was going on and so tried Safari and the square didn't appear so it seems that it is isolated to FF.

Try disabling the Google Toolbar extension and see if it goes away.

yep that got rid of it, cheers!

wonder why it does that?

It's a fault with the Google Toolbar extension that happens for some users. I saw that happen with versions if GTB before 7.0, but not since.

You can try to uninstall and reinstall the Google Toolbar. Some have reported that works.
