My bookmarks have disappared and I can't save any new ones - due to Firefox being in use by another applcation. How can I rectify this>

I was using Blurb to download some details from my Wordpress blog and when I came to use Firefox found an error message advising that that my bookmarks function could no long be used. There was a red error message at the top of the page telling me this.
