firefox won't open,downloaded new version, still won't work

Firefox will not open,I get a message saying it's crashed and would I like to report the problem, I have,several times. On trying to install a new version,I got this message.. Firefox could not install this item because "install.rdf" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist. Please contact the author about this problem.

You can uninstall and remove the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension. You do not need them to run Java applets.
