In 'my computer' > c>program files>mozilla firwefox , I have (now) ,chrome;chrome(2);chrome(3).etc for nearly all the folders. Like multiple instalations on top of each other. So, now I can't start Firefox nor uninstall it to clean the plate for a fresh install.

I did install firefox again without unistalling what was there ,I thought it would recognize and deal with the previous.

The reason I thought I needed to reinstall firefox in the first place was : It seemed to take away 1/3 of my 'Immunity" in Spybot search and Destroy, everytime I opened Firefox. Thought might have undetectable 'Greeble' in firefox. This only started to happen in the last couple of days. Using 'System Restore' didn't clear it , so fresh install of Firefox seemed best.

I want to Unistall ,Delete ,Purge clean up , all the bits of Firefox and start again . If you can help ,please be absolutely clear in instructions , so i don't misunderstand. Hopefully , helpful , smilin'

Chosen solution

This is often caused by using system restore. That feature can cause problems as well as solving them.

Delete the entire contents of the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ folder including deleting all of the sub-folders, and then re-install Firefox.

Dear Q, Many thanks for your help! Didn't work straight up for a couple of times. Firefox(3.6.8) just wouldn't start, but did allow me to uninstall it. Which I did, removing all personal data. (second time) I then installed older version (3.6) , and is up and running again. Once again , many thanks , for your time and effort to help. journeyman.

You're welcome

Similar problem - program files will not extract, program will not install, and I have no folder named Mozilla FireFox in my Programs folder. Whether selecting run from the pop-up window when starting the installation from the site, or, selecting Save and then running the program, I get 0% file extraction with no other activity. The program file cannot even be found in my Temporary Folder.

Help?

Post script - the above happens even if all Firewall, Spyware and similar software is turned off during the Run option from Firefox's site, and upon attempting to Run the saved Setup file.

I had a similar problem with firefox 5: It wouldn't let me open or uninstall firefox, and complained it didn't have mozcrt19.dll. The cause was I had renamed firefox.exe to firefoxy.exe(our corperation only wants us to use internet exploder). Well, I renamed the exe back to firefox.exe, and I was able to uninstall without any trouble.

Thank you very much, my issue was fixed with your instruction! Teresa
