Firefox (and Thunderbird) will not run (Crash report)

I have been using Firefox now for several years without any problems at all; however, it crashed a few days ago and since then I have receives a "Crash Report" splash screen every time I try to use the program. I have made a .JPG of the message, if that is necessary. When I click on the "Restart Firefox" button on the splash screen it just recycles and displays the same splash screen -- no matter what I try, Firefox will not initiate or run.

This crash happened while I was using v3.6.3, and I have subsequently un-installed that version and installed v3.6.8 (the latest version) in an attempt to get the program to work again; however I am still getting the same "Crash Report". Firefox still will not work.

I have another computer in the house and Firefox continues to work just fine on that machine, so I conclude that the problem is specific to the first machine.

After I un-installed Firefox, using Windows un-install utility, I ran "CCleaner" and "Wise Registry Cleaner" as well as "Wise Disk Cleaner" in an attempt to remove all files related to Firefox. I have also cleaned the "Recycle bin". However none of that has made any difference; Firefox still will not initiate and still displays the same "Crash Report" screen.

This problem has also affected my "Thunderbird" (v3.1.1) e-mail application - I can no longer access my e-mail through Thunderbird. Thunderbird displays the exact same "Crash Report" when started. I have also un-installed this program and re-installed it - still the problem persists.

Is there a hidden file (something not effected by the un-install program or cleaning programs I have used) that I need to change, modify, or delete somewhere in my system in order to get Firefox and Thunderbird to work again on this computer?

This post has been up since 8/6/2010; it is now 8/30/2010 - Isn't there someone out there who can help me fix this problem?

I have the same problem. For Firefox, I tried installing 4.0 beta. It worked just fine. This should hopefully provide a clue as to what the problem is (what does 4.0 use that 3.6.X doesnt? or the other way around).

But for Thunderbird, I guess we're out of luck...

I was able to fix this problem. It seems that I needed to update my Adobe flash. Once that was done everything has been working just fine. Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner to post this fix.
