Improper redirect from results page
using firefox 3.6.3. It 'crashed' yesterday. [Never ever had a problem w/FF 'til yesterday.] Had to reboot computer w/manual shut-down of firefox. Now when I do a search, click on a particular result, I am not directed to Amazon - for example - but to ad for car rental or business college or vacation home. I think I had malicious adware planted but I can't find it.
This happened
Every time Firefox opened

Since 7/1/10 or about when I installed/updated to 3.6.6, I have had constant redirects to the wrong pages, to advertising sites, and, often, to "Firefox cannot connect to server". In many cases, if I "open in new tab" the redirect is not improper. In most cases, when I get an "cannot connect to server", a number of retries (4 or 5) eventually connects. I have gone through the Firefox support and help pages, checked all of the Options settings, allowed pop-ups (no change), already allowed Javascript (no change), blocked cookies from some of the unwanted sites (some seem to no longer redirect), cleared the cache (no change), deleted all cookies (no change), checked the blocked cookie sites (no change but seems OK), etc.
This is recent, never happened before, is very annoying, and is almost a complete crash or lock up of the browser because I cannot get to any Yahoo or Google search site without dozens of jumps, redirects, "cannot connects", etc. If I enter the URL directly, it usually does not redirect but almost always "cannot connect".
