• OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional (x64) Version 22H2 (build 19045.6466) • Firefox 149.0 (64-bit) • Thunderbird 140.8.1esr (64-bit)

Have NO idea "which topic best describes my question" from your drop-down list (above), so simply clicked on one.

Restarted my PC; all of my bookmarks disappeared. NOT acceptable. (Or is this just another "improvement" from Firefox . . . ?)

Where did they go; how do I retrieve them?

Really don't want to wait days until there's a response, as I DO USE MY BOOKMARKS ALL OF THE TIME.

Thank you.

Hello,

Here is how to recover it : Automatic backup : Open Firefox and press Ctrl + Shift + B to open the Library window. Click Import and Backup (top menu) and select Restore. Choose a date prior to the restart to restore your bookmarks.

Profiles : Type about:profiles in your Firefox address bar and press Enter. Look for your old profile in the list and click Set as default profile. Restart Firefox.

Accessing old backups : Open the "Old Firefox Data" folder. Locate the bookmarkbackups folder inside the old profile folder.

If the bookmarks dissapear every time you restart, try this : Open your profile folder: Type about:support in the URL bar, find "Profile Folder," and click Open Folder. Close Firefox. Find places.sqlite and rename it to places.sqlite.old. Restart Firefox. (rebuilding of profile) beware to make backups before doing this

Thank you for your reply.

After years of using Firefox, the TOTAL MESS the newest update has made of my entire PC system means I AM DONE WITH THIS CRAP!

Bookmarks in toolbar disappeared = "go to profiles" and do this and do that = "Look for your old profile" = I have NO CLUE which is the "old profile" = "Open the "Old Firefox Data" folder. Locate the bookmarkbackups folder inside the old profile folder." = of course, I'm supposed to have a magician's ability to discern where and how to do all of that = NO! I'M DONE WITH YOU FOLKS!

Now I will find a different browser, spend hours getting everything recreated that I've lived with for years, and hope their system is not equally as stupid that it "disappears" parts of the program on a whim . . . sounds like ICE/DHS's current method of "managing immigration" doesn't it . . . ?!

Goodbye -- and good riddance!

Oh, yeah . . . then after mucking around with all that, "Enter your account recovery key" shows up . . . Ok, sure, right! And what is that and where am I supposed to magically find it in order to jump through that hoop?

NOPE!
