Calendar event convert to message missing date and time
(Sorry, there is no calendar topic ... but this is about converting calendar event to email message...)
I just discovered (because I needed it for the first time) the nice and useful "Convert to ... message" feature for calendar events.
The converted event does not, however, include the date and time of the event nor the location, arguably the most important information about a calendar event. The calendar it is located in would also be handy, for those of us maintaining multiple calendars. Currently, it places the event title in the subject line, and the description in the message.
Anyone know if this is configurable? I looked in settings and didn't see anything.
Most useful would be a default template, which users could customize, perhaps per-calendar. All that I can see that is customizable about this is the sending email address, which can be set in the calendar properties.
Another issue is that this feature is not available from the event detail popup. In that case, I would think it would be not only available, but prominent. The event detail view is where I would expect most features relating to an event to be located, yet only the "Edit" button is present.
Thanks! Erik. - daily user and lover of Thunderbird!

There is the option to send messages in the Edit Event window by right-clicking in the Attendees tab, Invite Attendees...

The Edit command is in the event context menu, so no need to first Open.
Ah, thanks. In this case I haven't added attendees, and wanted to send the message to someone who was not originally participating. Logic might dictate that I would add them as an attendee first, then message them. However, in our family we are informal about such things, so simply texting any changes in plans, and then sending the calendar detail as needed is more appropriate and friendly. I was simply pointing out that in other contexts (from the Events sidebar in mail, and from the calendar itself), the context menu allows sending an event as an email message - so logic also might dictate that the application provide a contextual menu with this option anywhere an event is displayed, including the detail view. As for opening vs. right-clicking an event - it is a natural action, at least for me and I am sure many others, to first open a calendar event to see the full details, and then do something with it. I discovered the "Convert to ... message" feature by attempting to copy the event as text, then paste in a message I would compose separately. I got side-tracked in this mission to copy the event by this super-handy feature. As it happens to be, if I had attempted to copy the event and paste into a message I would have been disappointed, though not terribly surprised, to find that I had obtained a vcalendar entry not the event converted to text! Thanks again for the feedback, Erik.
When you click Invite Attendees..., recipients can be easily added - address autocomplete works the same as in the new message window. This actually makes more sense than converting events to messages, since the recipient can easily add the invite/message to their calendar.
