Thunderbird-created Google Calendar invites neither include an automatic Google Meet link nor record the sender as an accepted attendee (so the sender receives no reminders unless they manually accept the event)
Google calendar invite created in Thunderbird lacks Google Meet link and sender acceptance is off by default .
Given:
- A user with a personal Google account; and
- User has enabled Google Calendar setting Automatically add Google Meet video conferences to events I create; and
- The user’s Google calendar is added to Thunderbird using instructions in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-lightning-google-calendar; and
- The user creates an event with at least one guest in Thunderbird;
- The user has 30 min default notifications in TB enabled.
When:
- User creates a meeting invite with at least one guest and Thunderbird saves/sends the event to Google Calendar via its current integration
Then:
- No Google Meet link is attached to the event in Google Calendar; and
- Google Calendar does not record the event creator as an accepted attendee; and
- As a result the event creator does not receive reminders unless they manually accept the invitation by logging into Google account online.
Expected behavior:
- Google Meet link is automatically included in Events with at least one guest;
- The event shows in TB as accepted by the sender by default;
- The sender is reminded in TB before the meeting as per default reminder settings;
Note: As it stands, I cannot use TB for creating online meeting with guests, as it includes no links for meetings, and no reminders. It is only useful for reading google calendar but not for creating or updating meeting events.
