Why the Search function in the NEW Thunderbird doesn't work!?

I don't like the NEW Thunderbird, especially the Search function which is very frustrating and difficult to work if it works at all. the old one was much better where we could indicate filter elements and retrieve the emails we wanted! Is there some magic or secret methods to make this NEW one work?

Hi Walt,

Just curious: what are you calling the "new Thunberbird"? There's a new version of Thunderbird every month.

Thunderbird has three search functions. It seems that you want what I guess is called "classic search". It is still there. Command-shift-F on a Macintosh, probably control-shift-F in Windows. Also under the "Edit" menu.

In Android Thunderbird app I can't get any results using search if not very recent even when I click on search in server. It says "Sending query to server" but no results emerge.

I did search on RainLoop in desktop in browser and there are emails in there for search keywords.

I setup debug on Dovecot by setting /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf mail_debug = yes and restarting dovecot and there are no Prefetch in mail.log when I do search on Android Thunderbird app like when I do search in RainLoop on desktop in browser.

cat /var/log/mail.log | grep Debug

dovecot: imap(dwight)<xxx><xxx/xxx>: Debug: Mailbox INBOX: UID xxx: Opened mail because: prefetch

After an hour I looked back and the search results by searching server returned in Android Thunderbird app.

So if person waits a few minutes the results will return on Android Thunderbird search. It just takes time for the search to process and return results.
