If I close Thunderbird (144.0.1) it crashes when I re-open it and I then have to reinstall it. How do I solve this?

Try creating a new profile while TB isn't running - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-thunderbird-profiles.

Better is to post a crash ID here in support, assuming you are actually crashing. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-crashes
