Adding accounts crashes Thunderbird - every time

Hi guys,

I'll try to remain calm.

After trying around 20 different email apps to find one that does what I want (which isn't much anyway), I thought I'd try Thunderbird. I had used it many years ago and it was great. Not any more.

Every time I try to add an email account, it crashes. Here's what I've tried to fix it:

Disabled the Account Hub Started Thunderbird in Safe Mode Started Thunderbird in Troubleshoot Mode Created a new Thunderbird profile Checked the antivirus and firewall Gave Thunderbird permission to accept incoming connections Reinstalled Thunderbird twice Tried to manually set up the account offline Disabled hardware acceleration Forced the Profile Manager Manually removed the Account Hub entry from pref.js file Unchecked Thunderbird's access to Mac Contacts MacOS is up to date Created new user on Mac and started with clean install and obviously clean everything - it crashed.

No other mail program fails so spectacularly as Thunderbird. Has anyone got any idea as to what is going on.

Thanks,

Jimmy.

Further to this issue, I just restarted my Mac and had another go at adding another email account. It worked. Then when I went to add a third account it started crashing again and again...

You have a mac and I guess you are now learning about antivirus products. They cause most of the random issues with mail programs Thunderbird em client the bat! it matter little. These iniquitous products that are such a pain for Windows users and now making inroads on the Apple platforms where they continue to generate mayhem.

If you find yourself thinking it would be a good idea to just edit prefs.js in a text editor. slap yourself and use the config editor. Manual editing of that file is not to be encourages at any time. Despite the cottage industry on Linux tinkering with it in a text editor.

You say the product crashes. So you can post the crash reports. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_viewing-crash-reports

Or like so many others posting in this forum, did you misspeak and the program does not crash but hang. A completely different thing with completely different symptoms and causes. Sadly hanging appears to be conflated with crashing in popular culture to the point folk confuse the issue with their first post.

jimmy please post more details
