*cannot move or delete messages from Inbox.* Safe and Troubleshoot Mode do not help. And "Inbox on constans@sfu.ca' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges"
Hi. I have over 20,000 messages in my Inbox. I've been sometimes having trouble moving messages into folders, so I thought it would be a good idea to reduce the number of messages in my Inbox. But I can't delete or move messages in the Inbox. When I select messages and enter command to move them to a folder, or ask to delete them, nothing happens. I am a Thunderbird supporter, and I love this program. Thanks for your work! Any advice appreciated. Connie

Naive question - has there been a recent update to Thunderbird that could be causing this issue?
I don't know.
Could I revert to an earlier version?
Yes. Installing a later version might be better. The current version is 142.0. But trust Wayne: "A reinstall isn't going to help you." Your re-installing Thunderbird and importing your profile may have complicated our trouble-shooting. There's no need to import profiles when Thunderbird is re-installed or updated.
I saved my profile and uninstalled and clean re-installed Thunderbird. But when I imported my profile, all the same problems came back. So it must be a problem with my profile?
Or a bug. Or another program interfering. Or something else.
Does anyone know what that could be? BTW my global-messages-db.sqlite file is huge - over 200,000 KB. Is this normal? I have tried deleting it and starting over. When I first log on that folder is much smaller, but as soon as I try to sort the Inbox, it returns to the same huge size.
What you describe is probably normal. global-messages-db.sqlite grows as Thunderbird re-indexes your messages.
Again, I would trust Wayne: "nor global-messages-db.sqlite - this wouldn't cause message selection nor moving to fail."
I have been able to delete some files from the Inbox, but it is very, very slow. I started with the largest messages. Sometimes I can select a message, but some messages cannot be selected. When trying to delete one large message it seemed to be working on it, and there was a message saying "Moving files to Trash" and the blue indicator was slowly increasing. Then I got this error message:
The folder 'Trash on constans@sfu.ca' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again.
Do you know how I can find out if I have "write privileges" to the file system? Thanks again.
