www.amazon.com. PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR on Firefox only

more options

An error occurred during a connection to www.amazon.com. PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR and sometimes An error occurred during a connection to www.amazon.com. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR

This does not occur on Edge.

I've cleared browsing data and cookies as well as changed network settings from "Use System Proxy Settings" to "Auto detect Proxy Settings from this Network" (because one trouble-shooting site suggested it might resolve the issue)

What's going on?

Is it time to finally dump Firefox for Edge after more than 15 years of loyalty?

I do not have a screen shot of the PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR.

Over the last year, using BitDefender VPN, I encountered sudden inability to access each of four web sites (at different times). Going along smoothly, and then, suddenly I couldn't access the site. The occurrences were separated by weeks or even months. These sites were Yahoo.com, Google.com, Duckduckgo.com, and most recently, Amazon.com. The symptoms and errors for each were different. It was always with Firefox. Microsoft Edge had no issues

With the first two, after much searching on the Internet, someone suggested I try spllt-tunneling. That worked. A little later, when I couldn't access duckduckgo.com, I tried split-tunneling, and that corrected it as well.

Amazon's situation happened suddenly, yesterday, and did not have the same symptoms/error message as the other three. Even Microsoft Edge was presenting error pages when I would click on an Amazon link, but it would resolve and present the page after a second or two.

After talking to Amazon (and not receiving any valid technical assistance other than them telling me to uninstall and reinstall Firefox --what was I thinking?), I tried the BitDefender VPN Split-Tunneling feature.

The Amazon errors, as with the previous three sites, were immediately resolved.

This has got to be an issue with changes being made on these respective sites and how Firefox responds to those changes.

Anyway, in the future, I'll try split tunneling first when access to a web site suddenly fails.

It's been the solution four times for me so far (always with Firefox). I don't know what causes it, but a given site stops permitting access, I set up split-tunneling and I'm in.

Safe mode in Windows 11 is quite a challenge. I've done it once. (Restarting Windows four times in sequence to bring up safe mode -- strange.)

Thank you for your response, jonzn4SUSE!

Windows home or pro and what security software are you running besides MS Defender? You can also boot to safe mode with networking to test the issue.
