Firefox no longer working with multiple apps and websites

more options

All of a sudden, I can't access several websites through Firefox that I have used for years -- but I CAN access them in other browsers, like Chrome and Safari. Also, Firefox no longer works with my password manager. Until about two weeks ago, I could always autofill login information, but no more.

What gives? I am up to date on my IOS (Sequoia 15.5) and on my version of firefox -- and my password manager app. Superfrustrating. I hate to have to turn to Chrome as my primary browser since I hate Google, but I might end up doing that and just not using Firefox anymore, after like 20 years of having it as my primary browser.

Hi

Do you have an example of a website that will now not open?

Do you have any add-ons installed in Firefox?

Not sure which password manager you're using, but:

Judging from the reviews, there is a problem with 1Password: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/1password-x-password-manager/reviews/

You may want to reach out to their support to see whether there is a fix in the works.

Thanks - yes, it's 1password. However, I am also having problems with Firefox accessing lots of different websites as well (and when I switch to Chrome, no problem). I have cleared my cache and browser history and still the same problem. So, I was thinking it might be a problem with Firefox, rather than 1Password. This problem has been going on for at least a couple of weeks.

Also, to answer the earlier question, from Moderator Paul - I have been trying to view the Allina Health website, log into my Freshbooks account, log into my Freedcamp account, and several other websites. When I go to Chrome, I have no problem. Chrome also links to 1Password just fine. All of these problems with Firefox have occurred within the last couple of weeks. Been using Firefox for years, without issue.

I did have 1Password as an add on. It's worked just great for years, and suddenly not.

What happens when you try to access those sites? Currently, there seems to be an issue with the Privacy Badger extension: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1525577

When I try to access the sites, I just get a blank screen with the URL at the top. Sometimes, I also get a spinning icon (see uploaded screenshot).

Thank you for the screenshot. I see the "X" button on the toolbar, indicating that the page is still loading. I'm not sure what is causing it to load so slowly.

Maybe click the "X" to stop the loading, open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab (command + alt + K), click the little trash can to clear the messages, then click the Reload button and watch for any serious-looking messages that might help explain why the page isn't loading.

I will try that. It just never loads -- I'll open the site in another browser and check back later and it's always still loading. On multiple websites, not just this one.

Well, I clicked the X and it did nothing. It switched to the reload icon from the X icon, but the page itself is exactly the same. When I open the web console, it is similarly blank, whether I try to click "errors," "warnings," "info," "logs," "debug," or whatever. There's >> and just blank next to and below that.

I think that, after probably 20 years of being a staunch Firefox user, I'm gonna have to bail on the browser. I can't spend so much time figuring out what's wrong when I can just use a different browser. It makes me kinda sad, though. I wish browsers actually provided tech support directly, instead of using the community-support approach. Although that's nice in concept, it's not ideal when you're trying to get a quick solution to a problem! I appreciate the feedback here, though.

I don't think I explained my suggestion very well.

So far, we've only heard of this "never loads" problem among Privacy Badger users. If you discover that you ARE running the Privacy Badger extension, try disabling it for now.

I don't have any extensions enabled. The only one that WAS enabled was 1Password, but I've disabled that and it doesn't make any difference.

Ok, so it occurred to me that maybe somehow Firefox got corrupted and I decided to try completely uninstalling (including going to the ~/Library and deleting files there) then reinstalling, before giving up entirely on firefox. That appeared to work. Websites are now loading and Firefox is talking to my password manager again. Guess I should've started there. Originally, I did try updating Firefox (and my IOS) but both were current. Lesson learned. But boy, it would be nice if I could've just talked/chatted with someone at Firefox who could've walked me through a troubleshoot. I guess that's fantasy land, though.

I used to love that I could download recipes from the internet into AnyList. There were several other apps I used to rely on, but I can no longer access them. I am looking for another browser.

Did their extension (https://www.anylist.com/recipes/browser-extensions/firefox) stop working for you? You may want to check with their support on whether you need to make any settings changes to enable it to continue working the way you liked.
