How to override sync?

more options

I have a desktop and a laptop on firefox. I am selling my laptop so i cleared history and deleted all bookmark history.

To my horror, even though i remember i have signed out of mozilla account on the laptop firefox, on my desktop firefox all the bookmarks including bookmark folders are gone. Thankfully, i have a fairly recent backup of firefox userprofile file so i restored them.

However, to my horror once more time, I realize now firefox sync automatically deletes my bookmarks everytime it syncs so i have to turn it off.

How can i make firefox sync to treat my current bookmarks as the latest and stop deleting them?

Hi,

To make Firefox Sync keep your current bookmarks as the source of truth, you need to reset the synced data on Mozilla’s servers and then re‑upload your restored bookmarks. Here’s how:

Turn off Sync on all your devices.
   • In Firefox on each device, go to Settings → Sync and click Sign Out.
Reset the Sync data on Mozilla’s servers by changing your Firefox Account password.
   • This automatically clears all data stored on the server, so nothing old will overwrite your bookmarks.
On your desktop (where you’ve already restored your bookmarks), sign back in to Sync.
   • In Settings → Sync, click Sign In and use your updated password.
   • Make sure Bookmarks is checked and leave everything else off if you only want to sync bookmarks.
Let Sync complete the initial upload.
   • Your current bookmarks will now be stored on the server as the latest version.
(Optional) On other devices, sign in to Sync if you want them to receive those bookmarks—otherwise, keep Sync off there.

After this, whenever you make changes to bookmarks on your desktop, Firefox Sync will treat them as the single source and won’t delete them
