Setting up my existing email address

Trying to set up existing email address. When I type in info, it says "Configuration found ..." When I hit done, I get "unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password." 

I have a Mac and have been using Apple Mail. I'm not sure what to do next. I was able to open my Apple account, but that password does not appear to work.

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it?

Maybe, if you post a screenshot of the point where error message appears. Seeing the contents of the setup may be useful.
