We have several windows 11 computers accessing a single Thunderbird profile one-at-a-time. After one of the computers updates Thunderbird with the auto updating, the other computers get an out-of-date with profile message and then we have to download and upgrade to the new version of Thunderbird manually.

It would be very nice if when the out-of-date with profile arises that the user is given the option to update their installation of Thunderbird, i.e., invoke the auto update.

Thanks.

The challenge is that the profile was not designed for this; it gets updated when Thunderbird is updated. There is a compatibility.ini file in the profile you could delete after each update and then let Thunderbird do it, but that isn't really better.

A possible solution would be to use IMAP.

IMAP only helps in this situation if they stop sharing the profile - which isn't a bad idea.

Yes, that was my intent. Thanks for clarifying it.
