Trying to move IMAP Thunderbird emails to a new server. I used WHM to move TB and a lot of other files to the new server about 4 months ago. Before switching the DNS I downloaded the TB profile. Changed the DNS. I also reinstalled TB. After the DNS change took effect I replaced the profile. The accounts, passwords, and folders came in fine.

The problem is that TB shows emails from 4 months ago, but not newer emails. I can send and receive emails with either the old or new DNS. Emails send today show up fine (so I have very old emails, and brand new emails. Just nothing in between. There are 4 email accounts with years of saved emails (16 gb)

I have tried: Using TB import tool to install both the Thunderbird profile folder and the ~~~default-release folder. Tried to do this manually just replacing the files. Also tried setting up 2 email accounts (old and new server) for the same account. I could not get this to load the old emails. If I change the DNS back to the old server and wait; eventually I can access the current emails, so they are still there.

When the DNS is pointed to the new server, and I drop in the old server profile file, sometimes there is a flash where current emails show, and then are erased. It sort gives me the impression that the profile file is inserting the emails locally, but the IMAP server is removing the emails because they are not on the server. I am tempted to go to the new server and delete one of the email accounts and re-install it, but I would like some advice before I do this.

I may be able to help only a little, but I can start the process and see if other people can help more.

First, DNS usually means "domain name server". You seem to mean "URL for a mail server". To be clear, we might just say "old mail server" and "new mail server".

By "downloaded the TB profile", do you mean that you made a copy of your profile?

Were the messages that you are seeking in server folders, local folders, or a combination of the two?

When did you switch from the old server to the new server? Four months ago or more recently?

Are the messages from the last four months on either the old or the new mail server? I would ignore Thunderbird for now and find out what exactly is on the servers by using web mail, not Thunderbird.

Who hosts the servers?

If the messages are on a server, you can get them easily.

If they are not there, then we can see if they are in your profile. Please make another copy of your profile and do not use it in Thunderbird.
