Emails dated prior to install of thunderbird not synchronising

I installed the current version of Thunderbird yesterday. I am using IMAP. It is only showing the emails received since yesterday - nothing older. I can see the older emails via my ISP browser based webmail interface.

I have tried recreating the account settings, synchronising All, synchronising past 5 years - but it stubbornly refuses to fetch the older emails.

What other steps can I take to resovle this?

Thanks

Chosen solution

Thanks fo rthe suggestions - I have managed to resovle the issue.

The info for the email imap server were incorrect - the ISp's document stated startTLS - this was not the case. With this set to SSL it all started working correctly. Ty, questions resolved

Are you sure that both accounts have identical email addresses, the one on your ISP webmail interface and the one you set up in Thunderbird?
