When I've written a new email and click File > Send Later, will the email be sent automatically and when will it be sent, or do I need to send it manually and how does it work?

When you want to send the emails in the Outbox go to File/Send Unsent Messages.

@arlev the menu bar (including "File") was displayed as part of the Compose Window when I've written the new email, but in the default Thunderbird window, the menu bar isn't displayed. Therefore I can't go to File > Send Unsent Messages.

place mouse on same row as the send button, rightclick and tick 'menu bar'

Oh. I thought this would allow me to schedule time / date in future to send email, like Outlook.

Doesn't work that way? Then why should I bother with this instead of just saving emails as drafts? Took me a while to find Outbox, but at least my email didn't disappear into the ether.
