Thunderbird - cannot view contents of inbox or sent messages older than a day

more options

I either can't view contents of any of my older emails in Thunderbird at all (see accompanying picture), or in some cases, they just show html text code. (Both the inbox and sent directories are affected.) I have followed the Thunderbird troubleshooting suggestions (e.g. disabling add-ons), and clearing the cache, but the problem remains.

My Thunderbird mail directory on the PC is D:\All Users\Thunderbird\Profiles\Macdonald\Mail\pop.broadband.rogers.com\inbox.sbd

FYI - The inbox contains ~7600 messages, while Sent has ~2180 messages.

Hope you can help me out with this issue. Thanks!

Chosen solution

That fixed the issue - rebuilt both my Inbox and Sent folders. Thanks! With the proper wording (rebuild index thunderbird), a search came up with this site - https://www.lifewire.com/repair-folders-thunderbird-1173102 - that had screen shots of the rebuild index process.

Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder.

Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder

Then make sure you're on the latest version - TB 128.3.3.
