will not search
I can no longer search the internet and none of my bookmarks work..... I type in a search term and nothing happens. I have checked for the latest update, uninstalled and reinstalled it but that hasn't solved the problem.
I have Chrome and it works fine.

Is the setup on Chrome the same as Firefox including Addons and 3rd party software for both Browsers?
I really don't know. I've been using Firefox for several years and just update it when required. I've had Chrome for about a year and am using it in whatever condition it is in when I downloaded it.
I'd be happy to try and answer your questions if I knew how.....
thanks
BTW..... now it won't even open.... I've tried the icon on the taskbar and from the start menu and from File Explorer but no good.
If anything you might have to uninstall Firefox and delete the firefox folder to remove any problem folder or files and then use Chrome and down the latest Firefox. I would use Firefox in safe mode or Windows Safe mode and run Firefox and try to backup your bookmark/profles/data to a USB so you can restore them back. And then you can uninstall Firefox and then reinstall the lastest version and hopefully this will install and work the next time you use Firefox.
Thanks for the suggestions.... I did uninstall and reinstall Firefox but as I mentioned in my previous message, now it won't even open.... I've tried the icon on the taskbar and from the start menu and from File Explorer but no good.
Do you have any ideas of how I can open it?
thanks for all your help on this....
If you use Sync, best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
- use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button in "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support)
If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot the computer and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
- you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created
You may have to restore an older backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
- Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them

You can use the button in "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).
- Help -> More Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory:
Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
Thank you for your help. I contacted Lenovo for support and they were able to resolve this and some other problems.
FYI.... I was not able to access "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory" because I could not even open Firefox.
