Threads
Trying to all threads to come up when I click on a new email as a default. Already did this:- settings>general - scroll down to config editor - enter mailnews.default_view_flags and change value to 0. Does not work!
All Replies (4)
enter mailnews.default_view_flags and change value to 0.
This means any Newly created folder does not have threading auto created on that new folder. Are you saying you created a new folder and it auto had threading enabled ?
Are you trying to remove the option 'threading' ? If yes: Basically set up what you do want in the Inbox and then apply the sort to all folders inthe mail account.
1. Select 'Inbox' folder of mail account.
2. Set up the sort view you want to see.
- 'View' > 'Sort by' and choose 'Date' and 'Descending' and 'Unthreaded'
3. Apply the sort view to all folders in the mail account:
- Hover over 'Apply current view to'
- Hover over 'Folders and it's children'
- hover over the 'mail account name' - not a folder
- finally click on the 'mail account name' not a folder.
You would need to repeat the above for each mail account.
I was trying to setup my inboxes so that when I open an email I see not only that new email but both Reply and Sent threads under it. Eventually the whole conversation without opening past emails. Someone on here said changing mailnews.default_view_flags and change value to 0, would do it.
If you have switched off threading as per instructions.... If you sent an email to a friend and they used 'Reply' to respond back then the reply you receive would have the original email below it.
However, that does depend upon whether the person responding chose to include the original message in their reply or not. You have no control over what they choose to do.
For example Thunderbird offers you that option: In Account Settings Select 'Composition & Addressing' As you can see there is an option to 'automatically quote the original message when replying' which if you uncheck does not include it in the email.
Many people do not include it because it makes the email bloated if a load of comments are still included. It can also be a pain if people start using 'Reply' because it auto adds the email address, but in reality they are now talking about an entirely different topic. So they switch off the auto include and edit the subject as they may feel it saves them from looking up the email address.
If you then used 'Reply' to respond back then you should also see the left pointing icon to indicate you replied but obviously that email will be in the 'sent' folder.
One option: A right click on email in list and select 'Open message in Conversation' This will open in a new tab and list all emails both received and sent connected to that email. The emails are separate which is not what you were looking for, but it does contain received and sent.
