Attempts to run Thunderbird 115.12.1 in Windows 11 have failed repeatedly with error message: Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.

I lost my previous PC due to an unrecoverable hard drive crash. My current email provider is AOL and I was using the Thunderbird email app prior to the crash. According to some of the O&A posed at this site, I may have to contact AOL directly for assistance.

Please advise what information I need from them to complete the installation. I know you guys are busy and I can receive current emails from AOL at this time so there is no need to rush on my account.

I like Thunderbird a lot.

Thank you. Bob Perry

Chosen solution

If it's an @aol.com or @aim.com account (not Verizon), the correct settings are:

incoming imap.aol.com, 993, or pop.aol.com, 995, outgoing smtp.aol.com, 465. SSL/TLS security and OAuth2 authentication for both servers. User Name = email address.

I am not a user of AOL, but this info has helped some: Verizon and AOL require an APP password when using email clients on a PC. I believe you must go to the AOL site and select the security page and can set up the APP password there. See this page for more info: https://help.aol.com/articles/Create-and-manage-app-password

I made the updates using the pop.aol.com, 995 for the incoming server and smtp.aol.com, 465 for the outgoing server and OAuth2 authentication.

Thanks again for the quick response.
