Yesterday I tried updated an old pc that has windows 10. When I checked the computer this morning the start menu shows a shortcut to Firefox private and says I downloaded it yesterday.

Frankly this caused my wife to raise concerns about what I’m doing and I’m trying to clear my name.

I have never used Firefox private. I did not download it either.

Is it possible that the shortcut somehow automatically downloaded? Is there a way that I can show her the private browsing history which should be empty anyway?

In short, can you help me clear my name?

That is about a feature that is controlled by these prefs in about:config.

  • browser.privateWindowSeparation.enabled
  • browser.privacySegmentation.createdShortcut

You can open about:config via the location/address bar. On the warning page, click "Accept the Risk and Continue" to open about:config.
