I thought I could create a brand new email account here, but...
Totally confused here. Thunderbird wants me to use my current email (a gmail account) which I do not want. I thought by getting Thunderbird I could just create a brand new email (No, I do not want to buy a domain name!) and do something like blah-blah.blah@thunderbird.com. Looks like I was completely mislead by an article on doing what I really need.
If I have to use my current gmail address, then what is the point of getting Thundebird?
If I cannot do what I need on Thunderbird, I want my donation back. Anyone know how I can do that? I can't find an answer to that anywhere.
Sorry if I sound snarky here. It's because of my highly increased level of frustration. Thank you for your time, and any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I regret your confusion. Thunderbird is an email client, not an email address. People use Thunderbird as a tool to manage their email accounts, address books, and calendar. Should you wish to request a return of your donation, please do so here at https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/donate/help/ Thank you for your interest in Thunderbird. As an aside, if you are wanting to create a new email address in addition to your gmail address, several free ones can be set up at outlook.com, gmx.com, yahoo.com and others.

Hi Tom, Thunderbird is an email program that can connect to various email services. If you want a new email address, you can create one with a service provider and then follow their instructions for setting up Thunderbird to send/receive messages on that account. This does not require running your own domain/mail server.
The following article lists two non-free options: New Email Address
Another popular service is Proton Mail: https://proton.me/mail (free up to 1GB)
