I installed Thunderbird yesterday and tried to connect my work account, which is a Google workspace gmail account with the organization's domain instead of gmail.com. I set the servers as smtp.gmail.com and managed to select OAuth2 for authentication (this was difficult and required me to set the port at 465). I went through the permission process with Google, which now acknowledges (in a very warning sort of way) that Thunderbird has access to my account. I even sent an email from Thunderbird, which showed up in the sent folder on the gmail account and was received by the sent to account. However, I see only an empty inbox and empty local Trash and Outbox folders in Thunderbird. It's just not syncing anything (or maybe downloading anything?) from the gmail account. I need it to sync all my mail folders and my calendars as well, so two big problems need to be solved before I can use Thunderbird at all. I sure appreciate any help I can get!

Chosen solution

I will try this. I cannot do it now because it requires a restart, and I have to wait till a little later to reboot the computer. If it doesn't work, though, there is no one here who knows the answer. I do have access to the admin console if anyone can tell me how to find out the answer.

Try this: - highlight account in left column of main view - right click and select 'subscribe' to see if the missing folders appear.

I've done this and tried hitting the refresh button. There are no folders at all under the Folder List tab, so none to subscribe to.

What are your incoming server settings - server name, port #, etc.

I'm not sure how to find incoming, but I think they are the same as outgoing: Server name: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2 User name: sherri.tombarge@svswcd.org

highlight account in left side of main window, rightclick and select 'settings'. on next pane, click 'server settings' in left pane. If it says 'smtp.gmail.com' that is the reason you are not receiving messages, as that is the outgoing server, not the incoming one. Please post what you see. thank you.

It says smtp.gmail.com. What should it say?

My first guess is imap.gmail.com, port 993, SSL/TLS, authentication as OAUTH2. If that is not correct, I suggest asking whomever gave you the work account information.

A comment: this does not require rebooting computer, but a restart of Thunderbird.
