Today, with the newest but 1 version of Firefox, and an Mac running newest Sonoma,

every time I click on a line indicating it;s a link to another web page, I get 404.

Alway, it keeps telling me that Firefox could not update automatically/

Can anyone tell me how to stop the cancellation of links to another url?

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet, select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.
