My hp laptop crashed. I was able to remove the hard drive, put it in a sleeve and I trying to find my firefox bookmarks. All of my other files are there. I have tried every path posted online and i still cannot find them. I found two mozilla files but, no bookmarks. Can you assist? I dont know where to look.

In your profile folder look for places.sqlite and copy it to your profile on the new drive. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data?redirectslug=Profiles&redirectlocale=en-US

Firefox uses two locations in the hidden "AppData" location for the Firefox profile folder. One location in "AppData\Roaming" for personal data like bookmarks and logins and another location in "AppData\Local" for temporary files like the disk cache, so make sure to look in the correct location.

Primary location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>

Secondary location used for the disk cache and other temporary files (Local Directory on about:profiles).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>

Thank you both for your swift reply.

I am still struggling to find my saved bookmarks on my old PC hard drive that I have connected to my new Apple laptop.

I have searched everywhere and I cannot find any file that says appdata.

Am I missing something?

I am using "finder" in apple to search and I have clicked on every file and sub file.

I also cannot find places.sqlite in my profile. Which I think you are referring to my user name file that held all of my personal files which I already downloaded.

any help appreciated...anxious to find these bookmarks.

You didn't mention the OS, what I posted applies to Windows. For Mac you need this location for the primary profile location with your personal data.

In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the "~/Library" folder in the Home directory is a hidden folder.

To clarify my old laptop was a PC with windows OS.

I am trying to find Firefox bookmarks from my old PC hard drive which is now in a sleeve connected to my apple computer (laptop). Does you most recent advice apply in this case?

I followed the above directions and found the correct folder but, it was empty.

For Windows Vista and up (7,8,10,11), the profile folder is in this location like posted in my first reply. Note that in Windows "AppData" (Mac: ~/Library; Linux: ~/.mozilla) is a hidden folder.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>
