See if View>Layout>folder pane fixes it.

That does not work. This problem is at present on my desktop and has happened several times recently. I have had them come back if I go to View tick Folders and then tick All or Unified or both they have re-appeared. Now that does not work. I still have the full pane on my laptop and am concerned that will do a runner.
