I upgraded to the most recent version and then went back to an older version, v. 78. Now, I get an error message that says the newer version did something to my profile that makes it unreadable by the older version. Is there a way to reverse this and render the profile usable by the older version again?

I wouldn't necessarily advise goig all the way back to version 78. What problem were you having with version 102?

If I recall correctly, not all the emails would show up (download?) in Tbird. I went back to v. 78.4.1 because that was the most recent version I had in my downloads area and presumably the version I was using before I upgraded. I really want to get the older profile to load since I have ~20k+ emails there going back 14 years - a history book.

It would be a far better thing to actually figure out what the issue is with your install, than go backwards.

So how about you reinstall V102 and we work on getting it going correctly. Unfortunately IIRC is not going to be at all helpful in working out what is happening.

Well it refuses to use it, and I can almost guarantee you will suffer some form of dataloss from going backwards. I have no idea as to specific changes to the profile, when they occurred or what they were. What I am sure of it there is an explicit decision not to support back porting data layout changes should you force the profile into use with a prior version.

Expecting to get such information is not going to be helpful as it does not exist. You could spend the next few weeks looking at every bug in bugzilla for changes. , not just in Thunderbird, but in the Mozilla core that Thunderbird and Firefox share. Changes to core which are largely done without the involvement of the Thunderbird team meaning that there is not necessarily anyone involved with the Thunderbird project that is actually aware of all changes, only those which have caused issues going forward. Certainly not those causing issues by going backwards.

So I will reiterate. You are a part of any solution to your issues.. Reinstall V102 and we will work with you. Or sit there waiting interminably for answers to questions no one knows the answers to. As I said before in shorthand. "If I recall correctly, not all the emails would show up (download?) in Tbird. " is not going to cut it as a desription of your problem. We need exact answers.
