Cannot add new address to thunderbird address book

I have an address book in Thunderbird with ~250 addresses. This has been migrated from a defunct computer, and works well. However, I cannot add a new address. When I try, the screen blacks out and allows no imput. Thanks for any help. Kanga85

1. Check Tools > Developer > Error Console for related info immediately after the problem - these can be copied, and paste the info here.

2. Does the problem reproduce in Help > Troubleshoot mode?
