When minimized TB doesn't appear in list of app shown by Alt-Tab of Windows.

When I minimize the Thunderbird window TB no longer shows up in the array of loaded programs displayed by the Alt-Tab command and the pinned icon in the taskbar looks like the program is not running. On my system, when a program that is pinned to the taskbar is running, the window or tab name is displayed next to the icon.

This began to happen after the update to 102.1.2. To try and troubleshoot this I uninstalled TB and reinstalled TB 91.5.1. Because I had updated to 102.1.2, TB required me to create a new profile. The issue with minimize did not occur with this new profile. I then updated to 102.2.0 and found that the issue also did not occur.

Thinking that maybe the issue was fixed by the re-install, I used the -profilemanager option to reconnect to my main profile. Now the problem DID occur. So the issue looks like it might be an issue with my profile. But I have no idea what that could be.

I have nine email accounts plus the local folders configured in this profile. What is the best way to recreate the profile and migrate all the accounts to a new profile? I'm thinking I'll have to migrate the accounts one by one until I find the account causing the issues.

If there is a better way to fix this, I'm all ears. If the problem is with one email account how to I retrieve the data from the account?

Chosen solution

Hang on - just had a thought - There is another setting which could be set up in the Profile. It controls the minimise option.

Lauch the original profile. Menu icon > Settings > General Under 'System Integration' If you have this selected : 'when Thunderbird is minimised move it to the tray'

Upon minimise the shortcut icon on Task Bar will look like the program is not running. When you use 'Alt+Tab' it will not display for selection. The icon is now displaying inthe far right 'Tray' which would need to be selected to re open Thunderbird. When you click on icon in 'Tray' it disappears until you 'minimise' again.

To get the 'Alt+Tab' working again - uncheck - do not select that when Thunderbird is minimised move it to the tray option.

This should sort out the problem.

It not likely to be a mail account name folder itself as that only holds emails. There are a load of other files within a profile name folder that may be the cause.

I would first test to see if has something to do with what the OS has stored in the cache folders. Exit Thunderbird Access: C: Users/User Name/Appdata/Local/Thunderbird/Profiles folder see image below as guide.

Delete the original 'profile name' folder. This is not where Thunderbird stores the profile folder by default. When you restart Thunderbird and choose that original profile then the OS will create a new profile name folder in the 'Local'/Thunderbird folder.

BINGO! That was it! I'm glad it was that simple. I had looked over the settings but didn't recognize that could be it.

Thanks a bunch!
