emails in inbox sorted by date are not in chronological order

Hello I just installed Thunderbird (I need to free myself from Outlook, and have tried eM Client, BlueMail, and Mailbird....), and while it seems to have many of the features that Mailbird, for example, does not, the emails in my inbox and sent folders, even though I have tried to sort them by date, are not in that order. I have attached a screenshot so you can see for yourself. I hope someone can help!

I don't understand. It appears from screenshot that the mail is sorted in descending order, showing newest at bottom.

I have emails from 8/19, 8/10, 6/27, and 12/3/2019 scattered in there.

You might try checking view>sort by>unthreaded.

Thank you. That helped. I remain super confused about the threaded conversations, as stuff from years ago was at the top of the page (and because I would like to use the threaded function), but the order is correct now.
