Firefox does not store my login for protonmail anymore how can I save my login WITHOUT saving my password
Some time ago, all of a sudden Firefox did not auto filled my login name for my protonmail account It did however autofilled another login for another emailservice, but not my protonmailname. I emptied my cache memory, logged out of protonmail and tried to enter (for saving) my username, but Firefox keeps asking to save both my loginname AND my password. But I don't want to save my password(s) on my machine nor on any other place but my head.
I asked the proton-team about it, but they said I need the latest Firefox version (I think I do) and storing logins and password(s) is solely a browser thing and has nothing to do with protonmail.
The weird thing is, my son has the same problem on another machine, and has not made any changes whatsoever. Plus he works with an old version of Firefox because he likes that version and hates changes (an autism thingy)
Now when I log in at protonmail the message pops up if I want to store my login, but it does not let me only store my login name, it keeps asking my password as well so I'm forced to decline while I DO want to store my username.
How can I store ONLY my username and NOT my password? How come that feature is gone, but also on my sons PC with his very old Firefox version?
(by the way, I'm dutch and answers in dutch are highly welcome because I not very good with PC (nor with Linux/ubuntu))

Protonmail... Interesting. Let me create an account and see if it works for me.
In the Password Manager you can only store a username and password and not only the username. If you only want to store the user name then this must be done via 'Saved form data' or via a form fill extension (search the Add-ons website). Note that Firefox comes with a feature to support saving the username and password when they are on separate pages. You can disable this feature by setting signon.usernameOnlyForm.enabled = false on the about:config page.
It works for me. see screenshot I cleared cache and history, ran a Nightly update, and when the browser came back up the login info is there. Update to 95.0.1 or try another version like Dev, Beta, or my BFF Nightly.
Note that the OP wrote that they want to save only the username and not the password. Saving both username and password usually isn't that difficult and if necessary you can create a login in Lockwise, but saving only the username is usually more difficult.
Since when is that? Never had any problems only storing my username (an not my password) It still does so on another website I have an account, and it remembers only my username just fine And how comes my son has the same problem at his protonmail-account with this very old version of FF

This does not ring a bell. Where can I find this about config page? never mind found it it does say I have to be careful and only do it if I know what I am doing. Is it save for me (an utter know-not when it comes to things like this)? And can my son do the same thing on his PC?

WARNING: Changing preferences through this interface not officially supported Hidden settings edited using the about:config tool are explicitly not supported, which means that Mozilla makes no guarantees they will be supported in the future, or that Mozilla will fix them if they break. Mozilla does not test these preferences, and will not in the future. That includes security and performance testing which these preferences may affect.
Then my next question will be Why oh why did Firefox stopped making it possible to save ONLY your username and now forces you to also store your password in the process It seems to me that the less passwords you store online or on your machine the saver you are.
Please bring back a feature that let me decide if I want to store both my username and or password, or only one of them. I don't like this one bit.
