I have c3.4GB of emails (20 years of work and community efforts, c.150k emails) that I can not lose (work related = employment/income, so not an option!)
have reinstalled multiple times following complete removal of all prefs and associated baggage - no joy created new profile, no joy

The 91.x version path gets way fewer changes than beta. We tend to introduce only stability and security fix. No big changes. So updating 91.x should not be something to be feared.

Locate your Thunderbird folder, ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile name>/
and open

and post the last few crash IDs, which begin with bp-...

The crash seems to be the same as reported here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1743138 but so far no explanation. Try running OS X in safe mode.
Consider using the release version 91 if necessary. Local mail, address books etc. can be transferred from the current profile to one created with TB 91.
Modified
Terrific - many thanks - will revert to 91.0 and see if that works greatly appreciated!
Apologies - should I do a complete purge and clean install or just install 91 over 95b? I understand how to transfer the folder etc across after but would prefer to not have to recreate all prefs and settings etc apologies for my confusion
If you remove 95 and install 91, you won't be able to run the 95 profile in 91 unless you start with the command line (terminal?) switch -p --allow-downgrade
A better way, which I'm familiar with on Windows, is to install 91 in a separate folder, not run it at end of setup, launch Profile Manager with the -p switch with 91, and create a new, separate profile, add accounts, transfer local mail etc. This is more complex, but allows to keep the 95 and 91 programs and profiles separate, and to launch either one without version conflicts.
thanks - beyond my skill set, happy to not have 95 on computer if it is the root cause of the issues I'm having
@fshowes - please feel free to share my crash logs with TB - I don't know how to log the bug/issue, but if you can/feel it's worthwhile, that would be terrific working on rebuilding TB folders/profiles now...
I have added a link to this topic to the bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1743138
Eric, Can you still reproduce this issue? And are you still using beta?
And, were you also experiencing mangled folders/messages?
@Wayne 1 - I reverted to TB91.0 and crashing stopped. As @FSHowes noted, this appeared to be a problem that was introduced/emerged in recent TB betas, and his suggestion to revert to stable 91 worked.
@Wayne 2 - yes, mangled folders were present: (1) if I tried to repair a folder, approx 90% of messages simply disappeared (2) often the majority of messages in Inbox had the same content - ie no matter who/when sent an email, all the emails in my inbox were identical in content
happy to assist with troubleshooting many thanks E
Eric, when you reverted to version 91, is that the ONLY change you made to stop the crashing/problems?
Correct - no other changes, just reverted to 91.0 Release
Are youable to try 91.6.1 ?
Am a tad unwilling/cautious about using new(er) versions given my extensive/extended problems I had with beta. Has the problem been solved? I am highly unwilling to lose another day or so rebuilding my emails... apologies for my caution
Modified
The crash only existed on beta, so esr91 is not affected.
Note, when sfhowes suggested you use version 91, he didn't mean for you to use 91.0 which is the oldest. You should be fine using 91.6.1.
As always, make sure you have a back up.
Thanks - will update to 91.6 and hope all goes ok. I use Carbon Copy Cloner for all backups - have found TimeMachine to be less than reliable many thanks for your advice E
