Tried to update Firefox, but my system is no longer supported

I naively tried to update my Firefox software, but then when I tried to open it, I got a message saying my system is too old. I have OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6. I gather you can download an older version of Firefox, but the directory is rather confusing, I don't know which option I need. Any help would be gratefully received, thank you!
