AOL won't work (again) with Thunderbird. What now?
Hi all. Thunderbird worked well with AOL accounts but now things changed and I cannot further make that situation work. Does anyone know how to make them "play together?" Thanks much!
Chosen solution
Preferences/Privacy & Security, Saved Passwords.
The OAuth window is similar to a browser window.

What are your settings? If the authentication method isn't OAuth2 on incoming and outgoing, change to that and restart TB.
Thanks for responding. I know it has smpt as OAuth2, but I don't know about the other because I've lost in how to change that. Really lost. A website with basic instructions with the newest Tbird? Thanks so very much, again.
Open Tools/Account Settings, select Server Settings for the AOL account, then set the authentication method to OAuth2.
Thanks. Blew it or not, but I changed "normal password," to OAuth2 for authentication. And now what? Again, thanks so much.
Remove the passwords from Saved Passwords in Preferences/Privacy & Security, accept cookies in TB Privacy & Security, restart TB, enter the account password in the OAuth window when asked to allow access.
Oh gosh, now I'm getting error messages saying authentication doesn't work. Then, AOL app opens a screen with which I can do nothing. What a mess. Ideas? Really lost... Thanks!
Maybe start with this: When you write"Remove the passwords from Saved Passwords in Preferences/Privacy & Security," WHICH passwords?
Then, how do I "accept cookies in TB Privacy & Security?" No clue.
Also, in the area "enter the account password in the OAuth window," idea what it looks for?
(Sorry, but really lost. Have a bit of a brain problem...sorry...)
Thanks again.
Remove the passwords for the AOL account.
Type cookies into the search box at the top of Preferences right pane.
When TB restarts and connects to AOL, the OAuth window will appear and ask for your password.
Oh sheesh on this end. Where is the password that I can remove? So sorry about that!
Also, when I see the OAuth window, will that be just like a window like AOL signing in, or something else.
Again, sorry from "dope land!" :) Thanks!

Thanks so VERY much sfhowes! I can barely thank you enough! All steps worked, despite my little legitimate news associated with grey matter.
AOL is such a problem and this thread will happen for others.
Thanks again!
Oh, forgot to add, I clicked the "stay online" option in the AOL window. Not sure if it helped, but there ya go!
