I try to clear cookies and site data but it doesn't work and keeps coming back. I've cleared hundreds of times before with no problem but now for some reason the data doesn't clear. I've tried clearing history first, or clearing each item individually but nothing working? What do I do?

Cache web content gets deleted but not Cookies and site data After trying to delete the dialogue box shows 0 cookies but still storing site data. This has never happened before. What's wrong?

The problem has never left'. Everything else is fine but 'cookies and site data' will not clear. Ever since firefox version change or upgrade about six weeks a go. I've been deleting cookies and history for years using firefox (since 2005 ish) and never had this problem. The storage is getting larger or course.

What if you switch to using the "Manage Data" button and remove the sites manually there -- does that work? If the sites are gone but storage is still being used, maybe there is a math error...

I don't know how to remove site manually? Do you mean removing bookmarks? I am going to try to back up my bookmarks then removing firefox and reinstalling. I am using a mac.

Not bookmarks!!

It sounded like you were using the Clear Data... button. I'm suggesting using the button just below that, the Manage Data... button.

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Cookies

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

What is left after you remove everything from Manage Data?

You aren't using Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History) as in PB mode your personal data is kept in memory and expires automatically ? Data from a regular session can't be cleared while you are in PB mode.
