Thunderbird freezes with grayed out password dialog

Installation working fine until last update. Suddenly getting main password dialog then 2nd grayed out password dialog that leaves main window, mail, other, unresponsive. Running in safe mode and disabling all logins doesn't help. From "safe-mode" dialog will not make changes and restart (nothing happens). "Continue to safe mode" results in blank gray dialog box and grayed out application window. When launched normally will not quit - have to force quit or killall thunderbird (although main dropdown menus still "work" - just nothing happens when they are selected.

Mailer now useless. Mac OS X Big Sur 11.6.

After upgrading I get completely gray folders/accounts, no way to tell where I am.

Version 91.3.0 available in the next week should provide relief.
