Is there away to have a column of check boxes in Thunderbird?

My memory may be faulty, but I thought at sometime recently I saw a way to have a column with a check box next to each message.

Then one would be able to select messages for deleting, tagging, moving, etc.

Right-click any column button like Subject or Date and enable the Select Messages column.
