What setting will stop the constant notice "Download the latest version of Firefox." I don't want 20 notices per day. It's like having a child in the backseat "are we there yet?" "are we there yet?" "are we there yet?" How many times do I have to click the "Dismiss" button before this stupid software understands that I do not want updates? I've noticed that this is a common complaint. Stop the bullying by making people choose automatic updates. Many times things get messed up on my computer with updates and it is not worth the aggravation. Candace M.

Is FredMcD trying to say - By updating to Version 89.0.1 I will not be constantly irritated by "Download the latest version of Firefox" 20 times per day? If you are trying to help, then please answer my concern directly. How do I stop the update notices constantly occurring 20 times per day? Please don't respond if you don't know the answer.

I get them once a day, twice at most. I have no idea why you get them so often; that is not normal and obviously extremely annoying.

I do keep Firefox open for days at a time. Do you close Firefox frequently? Maybe it is related to constantly exiting and restarting Firefox. Otherwise, maybe some setting out out-of-whack.

Thanks for your consideration jscher2000. However, what you are trying to say is: I do not know the answer to your question - I do not know of any setting on Firefox that will stop the annoying, constant message of updating.

Hi Candace, here's something to look at:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste app.update.interval and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to display an editing field, and edit the value as desired, then press Enter or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

The default value of 43200 seconds adds up to 12 hours (12 x 60 x 60). Here are some larger intervals you could try:

  • 86400 => 24 hours
  • 259200 => 3 days

I don't know how high you can go before Firefox ignores it.

If the browser thinks it is not the current version, then it should let you know. But not that often. If you are using the current version, that makes it a problem.

Thank you jscher2000. I just tried to reset my update interval to a year. My problem is that I am on a Mac with iOS 12.06 so can no longer update Firefox, but Firefox does not recognize that. I am not going to update my operating system until I absolutely have to due to the amount of expensive software I have that would no longer run. To be able to opt out of the update notices forever would be the best solution.

How do you completely turn off update checks in Firefox v64? You can use a policies.json file to disable updates for all users. https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md or https://winaero.com/blog/disable-updates-firefox-63-above/

You can use a policies.json file in the distribution folder in the Firefox installation folder instead as also listed in the article, so no need to use GPO keys in the Windows Registry. • https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-policiesjson

I have this same situation - keep getting a pop up to download the latest version. It appears whenever I leave FF and then open it up again. I have been just clicking "Dismiss" and it disappears until I close/open the browser the next time. It's a pain but honestly? After the last "update" made truly annoying changes (mostly nitpicking like having to click 3 places instead of only one!! - like Print Preview, for example) I am hesitant.

That said, I investigated a little and got a Google search response that there is malware imitating a FF popup that if you click you'll get malware installed. I am now wondering if the popup is that. What I am trying to do now is find where the actual FF download page is, via Settings. FF has my email address - I really truly wish FF would send me emails about so-called updates and how to download what I want.
