That is odd.

It may be blocked by you operating system, like a child protection feature

So normally a Firefox window would open and if it's behind something else, you could click the Taskbar icon to switch to it. It sounds as though you are not getting a window. If you hover your mouse pointer over the Taskbar icon, does Firefox seem to think it has a window open (thumbnail is visible), or nothing at all?
