I have inadvertently put most of my inbox into trash. I don't know How I did that but how can I put them back into the inbox? Also, how can I stop them from going to trash in the first place? Any help welcome. Thank you.

Right-click on deleted email files in Trash and select "Move To" > Select user account > Specify location where you want to restore deleted emails to - Inbox (highly recommended). After this, you can check and find restored emails at the Inbox then.

In the instant after you have deleted or moved messages, you can undo it with Edit > Undo. (In other words, if you have not done anything else that you don't want to undo after you deleted the messages)

We had add-on for this in previous version from Thunderbird. There where no recent add-on s for this time. https://addons.thunderbird.net/nl/thunderbird/addon/prevent-delete/?src=ss

Right, this add-on is not useful for the current version of Thunderbird

However, https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/confirmbeforedelete/ does.
